As I peruse many things upon this site, and others dedicated to a subculture of American life, I have decided that I am sometimes disheartened by the lack of understanding of the very thing they are attempting to subjugate through their words. Poetry, bragging about psychiatric medicines, and art are used to show a deeper appreciation of thought than others. Why is this important?

Anyone can read a dictionary, though many times (on some of the rudimentary websites) they do not seem to be used particularly often. Why attempt to say it is different from a culture that accepts differences? The “American way of life” is the acceptance of cultures. I do apologize, but if one says outspoken and brandish things then one must bear the brunt of those things. If one wishes to be an adversary, then they shall be made one. Now I realize this situation is often on the other foot. A person is ridiculed/tormented and then rebels. I’m not saying this isn’t completely natural, but holding such anger does nothing but worsen an already bad situation. Forgive, but never forget.
So where does this lead us as an entire culture? I think it gives our culture interest. Who wants a culture that is the same? As I said before, our culture is a group of subcultures in a melting pot. “Goth” (I hate the term actually) is a part of that culture. Recent school shootings (perpetrated by individuals that are obviously mentally not right) have fallen into the lap of this subculture. Stereotypes are to be embraced, and subsequently disbanded.
However, I do have several problems with “educated” goths. What the hell is a fake Goth? Is that like the proverbial “keepin it real dawg?” Ooh I know more about architecture, music (another point which I find incredibly stupid..it seems a contest to see who can name the most obscure musical references) and Goethe than you do, therefore I am more Goth. What the hell? I’m sorry that educated and being more than someone else do not go hand in hand. It scares me. You have people reaching for something to believe in (regardless of whether or not you believe in them) and they are told..you’re too stupid or ignorant to meet our qualifications. Intelligence is also something highly favored. Why? Intelligence=unhappiness? Why is unhappiness always equated to Goths? There is a very thin line between a goth’s make up and a clown’s. Aren’t all clowns frowning on the inside? Are they closet goths? Stereotypes are my forte, too bad it’s not me influencing them. Suicide attempts or talks of suicide or death also seem to be heavy. Yes I do realize this is a fundamental (death that is). Death is favorable to this life. What is making your life that unbearable?
Now..I actually like the dark side. I think it is preferable, and I have no problem with this. I love to see people imagining things in a different way. It is a blessing. I do not like to see ignorance purported without a helping hand. As a Non-Goth, these are my hints.
1. Attempting to subjugate others only leads to the worsening of pain.
2. Life is not merely the process to death. Death is the end result of life. (Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you tie.) Your choice of what YOU want that result to be.
3. Love of fine art, music, so forth does not make you Goth. It makes you cultured. If you like Senegalese art, it doesn’t make you Senegalese, if you happen to like anti-religion art, it does not mean you are anti-religion.
4. Satanism–Atheism is not Satanism. I’m sorry. Worship of Satan is the worship of the antagonist of Christ and God in Judao-Christian terms. If you wish to be an atheist, say atheist. (Sorry that’s a pet peeve)
5. Subculture is always part of a larger culture. Accepting your role as part of a culture entails certain burdens. Accept them. Acceptance of them leads to peace. If you do not wish to be lumped into that role, then do not expect to be accepted as that.
That is the end of my rant. I apologize if I offended, I merely intended to relay an observation. If this observation is wrong (it may be), it is still only an observation. Thank you for your time and patience, and good luck in future endeavors.
