I…don’t understand! Why are all of you accepting the stereotype “goth”? Gothic is a type of architecture! I love all the same things you do, I’ve even got a blood fetish. BUT WHAT THE HELL IS THE BIG DEAL?!?
I know that society has told us that we like the “darker” side of life.
Compliments to Sire for not making us sound ridiculous.
But why….”goth”? We are people…..immortal or otherwise. But we ARE people. The same as the “preppies”, “jocks”, or “rejects”. I don’t understand why we label and allow others to label us with that hideous name.
Please, Sire, post this.
Fellow humans, vampires, wanna-be’s. Reply. I believe that if one allows themself to be labeled such as this, then they are either extremely weak-minded, or they are “wanna-be’s”. They want to fit in somewhere. STOP TRYING TO BE SOMETHING YOU’RE NOT!
Thanks, all.

that’s the same senario that i’m in. i wear dark clothes, cause i look better in black than white. i have “dark” thoughts–people always ask me: are you goth?–i always have to stop and think about the answer for awhile…
what you’re saying makes perfect sense…i had a friend who was against stereotypes–hated the term of it all, and yet she was predjuice (sp?) against jocks, preps..anyone unlike her…back in october, she went through this “i’m punk” phase, cause she had blue hair, in december, it was goth, last month it was back to punk because her boyfriend was “punk”…
stereotypes are what people are put into to categorize eachother…cause, we can’t be the same, that’d just be crazy…there will always be stereotypes, whether we think we fit into one, or whether we’re accused of being there…think what you want, the world is enormous
I think its because we are not a part or do not fit into their society of being norms (having our own life to lead for one!) or the stereotyping of being normal that is why they label us all because they do no understand us, or even fear us
heh. we are all unique….just like everyone else.
There’s actually a whole lot more to the term “Gothic” than architecture, though that is of course an important part of it. I seem to recall Grandpoobah rather thoroughly disseminating the topic off in another thread somewhere, covering the major points of the various “Goth” tribes and the literary implications and whatnot.
There’s really not much of a choice, is there?
It’d be far more productive to try and change people’s faulty reactions to the term than to eliminate the word completely. It can actually be quite useful, when used in a constructive context.

*remembers that particular thread* Sire couldn’t post this until after I read what Grandpoobah wrote.
And I think it’s rather difficult, trying to change views, when we have the morons telling kids that they eat little children, wouldn’t you agree?

I gotcha.
Well, yeah, changing people’s views is pretty damned hard. But the word “Goth” isn’t going away. Might as well do the best with what we’ve got.
That is to say, we simply must start letting people know that we don’t eat children, but rather only adults who are fully capable of defending themselves in the first place.

I am a Goth. Sorry, that’s true.
