Into paradisical hell

And so it has begun, my journey into this paradisical hell. I am in darkness surrounded by light. “Welcome to Florida!” the sign was large, and glowing with an eerie crimson. Tiny little razor-clawed demons perched on its corners with a knowing sinister grin. Their eyes seemed to narrow even as their smiles widened and yet they waved to me.

The humidity was almost unbearable but becoming much easier to deal with. This was such a drastic change from deep in a valley in the Appalachians to flat, often-burned version of a city. To be fair, there are a lot of beautiful places nearby (excluding the home of that rat and his friends). My own yard has several orange trees mixed among many others I haven’t been able to identify yet. The spanish moss is everywhere.

I reach out as best I can at first, to connect to this digital world I think of as a second home. I find the darkness.com is doing fine on its own and the choice I made for it was fitting. I am also saddened that the care that I used to place in darksites has suffered because of these changes in my life. I’m certain that it will become something much better in the coming weeks now that I am beginning to settle in.

I wanted to share this transition with every dark soul that wanders this way, so that they know to return again someday with the knowledge that it will be worth it.

Out of sheer curiousity, roughly what part did you move to?

I grew up in FL and yes, I miss it terribly.

I’m between Tampa and Orlando, almost right in the center of both I think.

Be well, my friend, and of good cheer.
There are worse places. Okay, so I CAN’T think of one right now, but trust me…..

Onward! EMBRACE the DARKNESS within!

#7 Felinesque on 06.22.01 at Jun 22, 01 | 1:10 pm

It could be worse, my dear. You could be stuck in middle Georgia, as I am. This is a hellforsaken place that should be scrubbed from the face of the earth. FL isn’t so bad once you get used to it, there are some good pubs (so I have heard). In any case, Bon Chance!!

thank you.

#9 Shok on 06.23.01 at Jun 23, 01 | 2:23 pm

Yes yes. Eagerly awaiting the re-birth of darksites.
I still have the massive sticker across the back of my car. I was going to change it, but now that darksites is coming back, I’ll keep it up.

Ya pal, Shok.

Hey, change always hits us at sometime…sounds like you’re having fun, which is good. It’ll be good to see darksites up and running again…just remember to always enjoy yourself. It’s one of the key points in life that can be the hardest to achieve.

I live in the panhandle of texas on the caprock, where you get flash fried by the heat and the wind.I find my nocturnal lifestyle works well for the summer.Cool air in my dark house during the day,and the crisp night air when I’m crusing for chicks in my hearse. You too will acclimate to your territory as I have, and there will always be your digital community to turn to.

it’s been a while.
this soul has yet to reach valhalla, and am still lurking in this comfortable darkness we share. wisdom is hard to come by, and should be honored wherever found.
i for one hope that your voice of crisp, cold reason is heard and heeded for many years to come.

Watch out. That’s close enough to Gainsville that you might get some rabid Gator fans.:)

Tampa isn’t so bad. At least the arty district. There are some beautiful old theatre’s there. Just don’t go visiting in the middle of April when it’s filled with thousands of Drama high schooler’s at competition.

I know exactly how you feel about fl. it sux mad balls and really does feel like hell. whats worse about living in fl is that i live in a little ass wannabe town. just a bunch of shit talkin hip-gangsta wannabes here. we need more freaks and stuff because its reel boring. and to add to all of that, i was born in germany, lived in puerto rico, new york city, and texas so this is really very extremly shitty compared to those places.

peace

when in Tampa, visit the Castle on Friday and Saturday nights, especially Friday.
I seem to have read a few comments that said Florida isn’t so bad, they don’t know what they are talking about. I live in Clearwater and was born in Tampa, and I know for a fact that Florida is know where near as nice as hell. hopefully, you’ll be able to get out some time, as i hope the same for myself, but in the meantime, make the best of it. there is a decent scene here. in tampa you have the Castle, and Masquerade on various nights, and in Orlando you have Das Machine and a few other clubs. I’m on house arrest, so i don’t get out there to often, but it can really make a difference. good lick and if you need a local to cgat with, send me some mail

Well, there’s your problem:) You live in Clearwater. Of course it sucks. Clearwater sucks.

Get the hell out of the panhandle. Or North FL for that matter. You might as well be in GA then.

Go down to South Florida where stuff actually happans. I know West Palm Beach has a great goth/freak community (along with the 8 billion ravers) and Miami and South Beach can be a lot of fun.

FL is fun if you live in the southern part of it. Personally, anything near Clearwater Christian College is just down right scary.:) (Has horrifying memories of brain bowl competitions.)

wow…i’m in sebring, about an hour south of I-4 on US 27….wow you’re really close to me! you’re right about the humidity, but the free oranges are kinda nice, huh….

hey i used to live in lakeland and i loved it! i wish i was still there but i unfortunately live in north carolina..now it sux here..:( not enough people to hang out wyth.. clearwater huh? yea..that place does suck..but so does winterhaven..o.O..anywho…see ya man.

#22 FragileSin on 07.03.01 at Jul 03, 01 | 12:22 pm

Yep lots of ravers here lol;) I don’t get into that though and I don’t leave the house very often, cept for work and maybe a trip to CityPlace and the theatre down the road, too damn humid:)

Perhaps during winter, HAH I will venture out more often. Oh yea! I go down to Clematis on Thursday evenings and play in the fountains too:) Kitashla, did you go to Clematis at all?

#23 Kitashla on 07.03.01 at Jul 03, 01 | 4:29 pm

Of course.:) That’s where Rocky is every Saturday night at Midnight. Most of my friends still go to Rocky or are in the cast.

Had a few friends that moved near there (tamarin) after graduation as well.

*sigh* I miss FL and all my friends. Since moving away 5 years ago, I still haven’t made friends like the ones I left behind.

#24 Kitashla on 07.03.01 at Jul 03, 01 | 4:31 pm

Oh yeah, and definately too many ravers. My brothers are big into the rave scene. I mean big. Well, one got into too much trouble with drugs and stuff so he’s up here with me now. The other one is still into it though.

Personally, alot of the techno they play makes me go nuts. It’s like water dripping on the brain.

#25 FragileSin on 07.03.01 at Jul 03, 01 | 10:31 pm

LOL..I had one *experience* with it all. I won’t do that ever again;) I used to like some Sarah McLaughlin trance, but after experiencing the whole *scene*, when I hear it now it makes my stomach churn. In a really bad way too:)Makes my skin crawl too.

I left California after having grown up there, spent 5 yrs in Colorado and now am here. I still have never made friends like I had from CA…but the boyfriend I moved here to be with makes up for that and I am sure once I have been here a while I will make new friends. I think it’s harder once we get older…at least for me it is:) Are you planning on staying where you are Kitashla?

#26 Kitashla on 07.03.01 at Jul 03, 01 | 11:47 pm

Hmmm…well, I certainly hope not.:) I live smack dab in the middle of the bible belt. And while it is an interesting experiance, I’ll be damned if my child learns to hate like many of the people here.

Ultimately, I consider myself a gypsy. I spent most of my life moving around, and I actually prefer it that way. My husband and I have been married for a little over 3 years and we’ve lived in 4 different houses. *grin* (The Romanian blood might have something to do with my roaming spirit.)

I know we will never live in FL as my husband despised the place with a bizarre passion, but ultimately, we have plans to do a great deal of traveling. I know we may be moving to Hickory soon, but I’m excited about where we may possibly go after that.

I’m probably going back down to West Palm Beach in a few months though. (Friends are mad I haven’t visited in 2 years.) We’ll have to meet up at some point.:)

#27 Kitashla on 07.03.01 at Jul 03, 01 | 11:48 pm

Agree’s.

North Carolina does suck. Royally so.

#28 FragileSin on 07.04.01 at Jul 04, 01 | 1:04 pm

I sometimes have felt it would be interesting to not be so settled in life as well:) But there is something comforting too, about owning a home and feeling comfortable:) Maybe I am older and not as willing to pack and move lol. Although I just did that after living in CO for 5 years…and…with all the traffic and noise here? Hmm I just might be traveling again in the future lol. After living on 9 acres for five years, with hardly any neighbors and the nearest store being 20 minutes away, it’s just taking time to get used to the NOISE! LOL.

Definately let me know if you visit, we can go to CityPlace, which wasn’t here when you visited last:) …although I am sure it won’t be before October or November though, seeing as the next few months are the ones everyone keeps warning me about heh. “You think it’s hot today? Wait til August!” lol.

#29 Kitashla on 07.04.01 at Jul 04, 01 | 5:39 pm

Hey, but if I wait until September and after I get to go through one of South Florida’s two seasons. Wet and Dry. From September to December, when we get all that rain.:) Gotta love the Florida Eco System.

I used to live in a place called the Acerage (in Royal Palm Beach) and every fall we’d end up having to wear knee high boots just to go out and get the mail.

Gotta love man who decides to build houses in a place that once was the everglades. *grin*

#30 FragileSin on 07.04.01 at Jul 04, 01 | 6:12 pm

Small world, I work near there:)

That’s ok, leave me to deal with the heat and humidity;)

I didnt know that oranges grew on trees.

#32 ksquare on 07.11.01 at Jul 11, 01 | 3:58 pm

Clearwater is not in the panhandle. we’re in central florida, and tampa/st. petersburg/clearwater has a great dark community. yeah, it sucks, but it isn’t any worse than south florida. as a matter of fact, i would live here over miami anyday. miami is absolutely horrible!

#33 Drunkonhemaglobin on 07.22.01 at Jul 22, 01 | 3:28 am

Spent the last three years in SOFLO decadent, orgys, blood letting what fun. As with you though I missed the southern nights, and the innocent.

Demons attack only the sightless among us. Those who see can also defend. The trails we all travel eventually lead to the same place. My recent journey from the bowels of Pittsburgh to sunny, way to bright, Florida is an example of just how similar everyones journeys really are. Despite everything I seem to have found a home here and on this site.
