Entwined in a world of darkened oppression
Majority’s rules had set them aside
Forcing two brothers through cruel transgressions
Their feelings of hatred soon turned with the tides
The church had disowned them, banned from all places;
Locked in a dungeon of demented despair -
Forsaken by townsfolk, cold were their faces
Turned from each city, their souls wanted some care
Detached and abandoned, the sons searched for years
And every night’s dream was twisted to terrors
For each time they had slept, the dawn produced tears
Endlessly yearning, they sought out their bearers
As pale as the moonlight, the brothers turned ill
Going days without food, their bodies crumbled
And next came the need, the temptation to kill
Thirsty for blood, their morality stumbled
Then came the day one couldn’t help to resist
The alluring notion to feed on the life
He captured a woman, slit open her wrist
Deliberately changed, he wanted a wife
As she did agreed, controlled either way
Transformed in her body, her heart turned to ice
And the brother, depressed, regretted that day
Knowing this woman might create a grand vice
Death came quite sweetly to the Queen, now engaged
For she saw her passage to Hell long before
And so she accepted, not knowing true rage
“To live life as a void is to live a life’s lore.”
This lesson passed on to that foolish brother
Who, filled with envy of his kin finding love
Made a great poison, untrue was its cover
Strong enough to burn the pure heart of a dove
A new morn approached whe he filled his chalice
With a thin knotted liquid, throughly mixed
And served his drink straight, (his thoughts were so callous!)
Then watched the wine torture his friend, now unfixed
Coarsing with corruption, the venom spread through
Burning its victim in a death not deserved -
So calmly he looked upon the corpse, icy blue
And recalled his own life; such hate was he served!
What he now saw was the sole act of strangers
It was what they would do if given their chance
He cried out in wrath, now knowing each danger
Of judging each man in societies dance
The bland, salty crystals poured fast down his face
As he raised his knife to his worn, deadened heart
Brooding on the truth of ending his disgrace
Then sharp, frigid steel tore his last words apart
Two brothers lay stiffened, each consciousness cleared
Decaying to ashes as sunlight rose high
Achieving the task most common folks feared
Yet, being immortal were fated to die
