Horror Outlook for 2016

The new year looks promising. We’re not even out of January and we have seen not one but two big studio Horror flicks hit theaters, THE FOREST and THE BOY. Of the two, the latter is getting the better reviews, but both appear to be several rungs above such detritus as last year’s GREEN INFERNO. (Alas, I confess that I have yet to see either film. I’ve been busy, alright? I’m gonna get around to it.) We also got Quentin Tarantino’s THE HATEFUL EIGHT, which was darn close to being a Horror movie. And there are loads of Horror films slated for release in the coming months, and several of them have me intrigued. 2016 promises to be a good year for us Horror fans.

After his last flick, THE LORDS OF SALEM, I can’t quite manage to get excited about Rob Zombie’s upcoming 31. Nor do I expect much from LEATHERFACE, AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING or THE PURGE THREE: ENOUGH, ALREADY. (Okay, I added the subtitle, but don’t you think it fits?) But for each one that leaves me under-overcome (under-come?) with anticipation, there’s one like THE WITCH (the one I’m most excited over) or LIGHTS OUT. I’m cautiously optimistic about JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 and the SECOND remake of THE BLOB, but trying not to get my hopes up too high. The same for RINGS. And while nobody seems to know anything about 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE (is that even the real title?) I figure it’ll be good, whatever it is.
