4:56 am, a long day

The clock reads- 4:56 am
You’re still awake.
You’ve got a long day ahead of you, dear.

You just spent 15 minutes on another poem,
not even you understand.
Force yourself to smile,
like you’re proud.
Pretend you can actually play
the songs you like on the guitar.

The day begins,
you don’t want to see them.
Either of them.
Someday you’ll look at this and cry.
But for now you just keep
your smile cold.
Your lips dead,
your touch filled in simple lust.

Your heater blows out cold air.
No different from your breath.
You pick up the phone
dial half of his number
Leave the phone off the hook
so, he can’t call you
by some odd chance.

You hated yourself for letting him use you.
But you had a good time,
didn’t you?
and now you’re the user
and you’re using someone else.
Just like he used you.

What the hell is going on?

You never imagined things this way
but,
at least this one is still around.
The other one skipped town.

Now you can’t sleep again.
All thats on your mind is-

When will this one leave?
