Eight years. It seems more like eight seconds.
Eight years ago I got offered this gig and it was, at the risk of hyperbole, a dream come true. Somebody willing to pay me for my words, and the labor of putting those words on digital paper. And having people actually read those words. It was a new experience for me. Yes, I’d enjoyed the fruits of my labors previously. I’d managed to get paid for something I’d created. Several somethings. But those were one-and-dones. Finite transactions. I’d put something together and sell it. I’d retain the rights and I might, hopefully, get to sell it again to a different customer at another date. But a “regular” paycheck? I didn’t know what that was. Then I got this gig. Writing about vampires, werewolves, zombies, Horror movies and books? Talking about things I enjoyed talking about anyway, in other words, only now I’d be getting paid to do it? Hell, yeah!
I’m proud of the work I’ve done here. I took the job seriously, and there were even times when I felt like a real reporter. I got to interview some famous people, pissed off some famous people, got threatened by some sorta famous people. Got to go to some places for free. Got some swag. And met a whole helluva lotta interesting people. I’d say it was a damn good run.
If you haven’t pieced it together yet, this website and its sister sites will soon be “transitioning”. Not going away, but metamorphosing into things different. They won’t be what they are now. What they will be…is yet to be determined. That means, friends, that your intrepid reporter, moi, will be taking a leave of absence. I won’t say goodbye, rather “see you later”, as hopefully you’ll be hearing from me again, somewhere, somewhen. I retain all rights to the stuff I wrote for VAMPIRES.COM, WEREWOLVES.COM, and DARKNESS.COM, and that stuff might reappear at some point at a website under a different name. And you never know, there may come a day when my talents are required once again here at these sites, or somewhere adjacent. Until then, I want to thank you all for your support these past years. Thanks to everyone who’d read, who’s followed, who’s commented, and who’s participated. I hope you’ve all had a good time. I know I did.
