A newly published list of “American Horror Story: Hotel” actors and characters revealed several returning stars, including Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Angela Bassett, Denis O’Hare and Michael Chiklis.
Well, I gotta say y’all, I’m kind of disappointed about Kathy Bates’ being someone’s “agent” –sure, she’s a publicist for Janis Joplin, but I mean… ugh. I thought her character could be so much better, she could have been like Dolores Claiborne meets The Shining –it would have been awesome. In fact, initially, she was supposed to be the one running the hotel, but apparently, whomever’s running the show changed his mind. Boo. She would have been excellent.
I also have a sort of fear that most of the show is going to revolve around competition between musical talents, which to me, is boring… I mean, Lady Gaga is going to play a lounge singer, competing with Angela Bassett, who is also a lounge singer. There’s also going to be emphasis on the race relations of the era, naturally, and as much talent as there is in the room between Gaga and Bassett (who was an amazing voice in the Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It) –I worry that this is going to be more like a dark drama than a horror show. I don’t see a lot of fear in the future, but I hope I’m wrong.
