Born Again From Death

Ankou — the spirit of a person most recently buried in a churchyard, whose duty it is to watch over the other people buried there until the time comes to summon another living person to the grave and thus be relieved.

Cassell, Dictionary of Superstitions

This is my story:

I died after committing a series of murders. No one ever suspected me of my crimes… No one punished me… No one, except God.

I have been the reigning Ankou for almost a century now. It was my punishment for my crimes to watch over the dead for eternity.

I would have stayed this way forever had it not been for three young teenagers. On All Hallows Eve, they came to perform a seance. But, this was not like any another seance. They had brought a pure heart with them… One without sin. One of teens had brought her charge with her. A five year old girl. She gave me the power to overthrow them.

They started the seance at midnight. The hour when anything can be. The child had fallen asleep on the ground and the teenagers were performing their seance. They called my name, and I came.

I chose the body of the seventeen year old boy. He was strong and could perform the tasks I had in mind. After I took over his body I killed his friends, another seventeen year old male, and a sixteen year old female. I looked down at the child and thanked her and her God before I killed her.

These children didn’t know what they were doing. They didn’t know the power they would unleash. Now I am free to continue what I have started nearly a century ago.

I am Jack the Ripper.
