Fear is only a color, a backdrop, a landscape. That isn’t the problem. The fear either of the victim or the executioner is unimportant. What matters is the fact that each of them is playing a role which has been imposed upon him. The two roles are the extremeties of the estate of man. The tragic thing is the imposition.

a very interesting way to look at their situation. have you read “night”? i thought it kind of humbling to know that even when others were turning against each other, and even though he fought against his own desires, he still remained with his father until the end. the holocaust was a horrible thing. i also thought that the sad-eyed-angel was heartbreaking as well. i loved that book so much in my english class, that i bought it.
