Even In Death, Our Love Goes On

She wandered around the room, talking to people she had known, talking to his old friends. Looking for him, really, though she wouldn’t say so directly. She went over to the bar and got herself a bottle of Captain Morgain’s, then went back to mingling.

The whole place had a rather laid back air to it, the music was upbeat stuff, the kind of music she would normally never have listened to. She got on the floor and danced with a couple guys, just to make them happy, just to make them go away, before going back to looking for him.

Not too long later, she saw him, sitting in a chair, talking to one of his old friends, and as soon as his friend was gone, she went over and sat with him.

“Hey Lillethe,” he said, and smiled at her. She smiled back and kissed him on the cheek. They talked for a long while, about anything and everything that had come into their minds until the small party was nearly over.

Suddenly, she hugged him, and he held her close and whispered to her, “Don’t worry, I’ll never leave you, Lith.”
She whispered back through a shimmering veil of tears, “I miss you so much now… Oh Michael, I wish it never happened to you. I’ll never see you again…” She trailed off, unable to finish what she was trying to say. “I know, I know… But there was nothing we could have done…” he told her.

She woke suddenly, and looked around her room, crying. Everything was bleary with her falling tears. She remembered the dream with an astounding clarity, and it made her cry all the more. She whispered into the night, “Oh Michael… Would that death hadn’t taken you so soon, my love.”
