The title has been revealed for the sequel to the wildly popular Godzilla Anime, GODZILLA: PLANET OF THE MONSTERS. (I still haven’t seen it, sadly. I’m stuck in limbo waiting for its release onto video.) The second installment will be titled GODZILLA: CITY ON THE EDGE OF BATTLE, and will be hitting theaters on May 18th of this year. That would be much more exciting news for me if it weren’t talking about theaters in JAPAN, not the US. American and international fans who don’t choose to fly to Japan for that weekend will have to wait to see the movie. Some of us will have to wait longer than others.

In other Godzilla news, the statue of Big G that has stood in the former Hibiya Chanter Square in Tokyo–which was, awesomely, renamed “Godzilla Square”!–since the 1990s has been replaced. With a statue of Godzilla. The new statue is of the Shin Godzilla design, from the movie of the same name. No worries regarding the original statue, though, the one based on the classic Godzilla design. It was moved to ToHo studios in Hibiya.

We are, by the way, now less than a year away from the release of GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS. Which WILL be shown in theaters in America and elsewhere. If only fathom Events would schedule a special showing of CITY ON THE EDGE OF BATTLE.
