Haunted Slumber-Part VI: The Day After Tomorrow

Morgan sat herself down in the armchair directly opposite to the couch, where Erine had just sat down.
‘So what’s the whole story?’ Morgan asked.
‘ Well, ok, hmmm, I started having these really weird dreams, you know, just thought it was my overactive imagination, when they didn’t go away I put it down to stress, I’ve been pretty worked up about graduating this year’

‘Go on…’
‘The dreams then got really vivid, I started acting out, and the other night at the club I attacked Jason’
Jason turned slightly so Morgan could see the gauze covering his wound. She didn’t look shocked at all.
‘What were these dreams about?’
‘Ughh, I was me and I was going around killing people at first then it started getting to the point where I was wanting to drink their blood and eventually they have been me taking chunks of flesh and eating it’
‘And Jason got that end of the stick’ Morgan smiled
‘Yeah I guess that’s what happened’ Erine said, blushing in shame.
‘How often have you been having these dreams?’
‘They started about a month ago, just every s often but in the last couple of weeks I cant sleep or even daydream without, getting flashes’

Morgan leaned back in the chair, a thoughtful expression crossed her face. Erine turned to Jason and gave him a hopeful look, he replied with a smile and stroked her hair.
A couple minutes had passed when Morgan finally spoke again.
‘As far as I can see, these are the main issues here, first, you’re having this really violent dreams/hallucinations, which your subconscious is now acting out right?’
‘Yep’
‘Secondly, my book of spells has gone and someone’s been going through my stuff, which I think they did in order to gather what they needed for this spell’
‘Ok…’
‘And finally, obviously, if they had to use my books and instruments then they’re not a strong Wiccan or even Wiccan by nature at all.’
‘So?’
‘Well it mans they don’t have the discipline needed to handle this kind of spell, it can backfire at anytime, and that means we have a chance. From what I can ascertain, the spell is designed to ruin you, to make you think you’re going over the edge. They want you gone; somehow you’re in their way.’
‘So they want me to think I’m a cannibal and want me to seriously hurt someone?’
‘Well that’s only the beginning of what the spell may start, worst case scenario is that you commit suicide, that way there’s no blood on their hands’
‘Shit’ Jason said
‘Yeah, as I said this is powerful stuff, more than likely you’ll end up locked in some kind of institution out of the casters way’
‘Either way they get what they want though’
‘Technically yes’
‘But you said we have a chance though’ Jason exclaimed.
‘Yeah we do, we can induce the spell’
‘What do you mean?’
‘Ok, what I think I can do is this… I can overpower whatever spell has been cast with one of my own, this will induce Erine into one of her ‘episodes’…that’s what I shall refer to them as, and let her trace her way back to the point of origin of the magic.’
‘You want to set me loose when I’m having an episode? Isn’t that tempting fate just a little?’
‘The spell is designed so that you only want to find the origin of the magic’
‘But what happens in case of an emergency if the spell goes wrong?’
‘I’ll be with you’ Jason said
‘And I’ll be there too’ Morgan added
‘Are you sure this is the only way?’
‘If you consider death or a straight jacket and a leather face mask an option’ Morgan said sarcastically.
‘I would laugh, but I’m just to freaked right now’ Erine replied
‘Sweetness, we’re all freaked’ Jason said

Erine laid the last fork around the dining table. Soon this will all be over, she thought, I can’t wait for my normality again.
Morgan had been buried deep in her books all afternoon, and Jason had been running around collecting ingredients for her spell.
‘Dinners ready’ Erine said as she walked into the lounge.
Morgan looked up from her books,
‘Yep, be there in a minute, just reworking a few things’
‘Where’s Jason?’
‘He went into the study’
‘Ok, Ill just go find him’

Erine wandered into the back of the apartment. She could see the light peeping out from under the door.
She knocked on the door quietly.
‘Come in’
She pushed the door open a bit and popped her head around into the room.
Jason was just staring at the wall, thinking.
‘What’s wrong?’ Erine asked, registering the sad look on his face,
‘These last couple of days have me reeling’
‘They have me seeing stars too’
‘Yesterday morning, I was just sitting at my desk, planning on going out with a couple of mates for some drinks, having a laugh, that’s how I saw my life really, and now I’m here, with my soul mate, and a witch who’s trying to save you from self destruction, everything’s slightly overwhelming me’
‘Soul mate?’
‘Yeah, I really think you’re it’
Erine blushed.
‘Look, you don’t need to worry, Morgan knows what’s she’s doing, and I trust her’
‘I know, but what if something unexpected happens? What happens when you find the source of the spell? Are you going to attack them? Will you attack us?’
‘You’re just gonna have to trust in me, whatever is meant to happen will happen, but you have to believe that its gonna work out for the best’
‘Its full moon tomorrow night, that’s gonna be when she’ll cast her spell’
‘I didn’t expect a conclusion so soon’
‘Just think, you’ll be free of this the day after tomorrow’
‘It’ll be a change. C’mon dinners ready’

They were all sitting around the dining table when Morgan announced the plan.
‘Ok, I have it finalised now, we’ll have to work quickly, to induce Erine, but then once the source of the spell is found we’re going to have to restrain her long enough for my potion’
‘Hmmm that will be interesting’
‘Then I’ll have to neutralise the source’
‘Right then, we meet here again tomorrow midnight, ok?’
‘Yeah, I would say I’m looking forward to it, but I don’t think that’s the right way to put it’ Erine said
‘I know what you mean, I’m going to see an old friend to get some of his help’
‘See you’
‘Bye’ she said as she left the apartment.

Jason rolled over and looked at the alarm clock, 2.27, the numbers blazed back. He got up and opened the window; the room had become so stuffy.
He climbed back under the sheets and turned to check Erine, right now she was sleeping peacefully, but what was going on inside her mind might be a completely different story.
He propped him self up on one arm and watched her, her face twitched slightly. Her eyes flew open and she pounced on Jason pinning him down.
‘Feisty are we?’ he asked.
He looked up at her and saw only the whites of her eyes and a cruelly twisted smile.
‘Fucking hell’
Erine’s nails flew at his face, but he dodged them, they impaled into his chest ripped wounds down to his naval. Jason managed to free an arm; he grabbed both her wrists and threw Erine to the other side of the bed. There she lay for a moment.
Jason stood up and walked around to the other side of the bed, catching the shining liquid running down his chest. He grimaced.
Jason sat on the bed next her, and leaned over to check she was breathing. Her hand flew up and wrapped around his neck, crushing his windpipe slowly, Jason fell backwards, and Erine managed to get on top of him once again wrapping her other hand around his throat to increase the pressure.
His hands tore at her hands trying to pry them free; he could feel them loosen slightly so her threw her off.
He heard a loud noise as she hit the dressing table. Jason sat up; all he could see was Erine lifeless form lying on the carpet before him.
