Her Daddy’s Hands

The sounds of thunder,
Can silence her cries.
The rain can wash
Her tears into oblivion.

The pain inside
Can be put out of mind
but deep within her heart
The hurt cannot be quieted.

A voice that once lulled
Her little mind to ease,
Now wakens her in nightmares
And tears that fall without end.

The strong hands
That once guided her
Now, while pulling her too close
Pushes her heart away.

Her body convulses
As she slips away,
Daddy’s little girl
Forever changed.
