Coming back to what I knew
Looking back and remembering.
That which was there but once,
Now forever gone
Only to a memory,
And barley there.
Sadness quells joyful past,
Pleasant memories pushed hard
Below the surface of those once pure,
Now turned bitter and cold,
Recognizing only the hardness of it all.
Time changes everything.
Nothing stays perfect,
Or even begins so.
Illusion masks the flaws
Until the light breaks shadow
And truth revealed.
All hide as best they can,
And all run as far as they can.
Keeping secret what we fear of ourselves,
And our own truth.
Safe from the world;
From everyone
From ourselves.
Despite all we hide
We strive to learn,
To find all we can.
Leading to one we would die for.
The barriers they hold.
Knowing there is so much
Beneath a surface
That reflects all efforts,
Gives attempts back,
Offering nothing
And rejecting everything.
Sadness falls like night
Over a heart and its hope
Defeat snuffs the silent joys of resolution
Recovery comes so slow
If ever.
