Is this all I have dreamt of?

Along this darkened path I walk,
Towards what I know not,
A withering tree overhangs the road,
Is this what I’m searching for?

Its dead dry skin cry out with claws,
They scratch into and at my soul,
But sparkles of white pierce through below,
Is this what I’m crying for?

Earthly pearls sprung among fallen leaves,
Such beauty blooming before me,
But upon my touch, they fade into debris,
Is this what I’m looking for?

The sky above groans and moans,
Fore-coming lightning and rain untold,
Poisonous drops begin to fall,
Is this what I’m thirsting for?

I feel a fluttering across my cheek,
And sense the presence of innocence,
I miss the sight of butterfly-wings,
Is this what I’m yearning for?

And all about and beneath my prints,
Gently lurks my shadow,
With every step I feel the pains,
Is this all I have dreamt of?
