Ever since Melissa was old enough to remember, she hadn’t had a father figure in her life. Her father had been unfaithful to here mother ever since she was born, and so they got devorced. She couldn’t help but think that it was her fault that her parents got divorced, and never really believed anything else. Her father must not have wanted anything to do with her becuase he didn’t request to have vistitations. She didn’t know anything about her father, the only thing that she had of him was a old, crinkled picture of him that she found within her mothers prized possetions under her bed. She kept that picture of him under her matrise, the only place that her mother didn’t snoop in.
Her mother didn’t know anything about her, she wouldn’t let Melissa be herself. She wanted her to be perfect, even though she wasn’t. Melissa was always in trouble, but she was a good kid. Melissa was so misunderstood by everyone, and her mother didn’t help with any of this. Melissa had lots of friends but not really any true friends, other than Sarah. Sarah was the only person that understood her, she knew the real Melissa. The Melissa that was under all the masks that she must uphold to be “normal and perfect” for everyone.
Melissa walked into the school doors. She took a deep breath, a new school year. “Great new year, new and more pressures.” she thought to herself. She lookedaround for Sarah. Asshe walked around the crowded hallways of her high school, she saw students calling out old friends names, hugging friends that theyhadn’t even bothered to called over the summer. Everyone in her school. She knew that all of thenm were either posers or were soo shallow that they dicusted her to no end. Finally as she was running out of nerve she saw her bestfriends bright blue hair. She smiled to herself.
“What is your mother going to say when she see’s what u have done know?” she calledout to her friend.
“I don’t know, why don’t you tell me? Get this… she actually let me do this!” Sarah said when Melissa finally reatched her in the load, crowded hallway.
“No way!!! That’s sooo not cool. I wish that my mom would let me do that… but you know how she is, wanting me to be perfect and preppy. Much like Jamie. Godn i hate preps.” She grumbled to her friend over the noise in the hallway.
“Who do you have for first period?” Sarah said as she shoved some one out of her way.
“Ummm… I don’t know, I still have to pick up my sceduale. Come with me please.” Melissa said as she followed behind her friend.
“Okay. God damnit I hate these stupid kids, I’m going to hurrt the next person that getts in my way.” She yelled. Melissa watched as a path was made, as if by magic, right in front of Sarah.
“Why who do you have? God how can you do that? I mean it’s the first day and shit. Can’t you give them some slack? At least wait untill third period to make someone cry.” Melissa called after friend, smiling when Sarah turned around to look at her.
“Well i guess that i could try…” Sarah smirked “I have Mr. I’m-the-most-boring-person-in-the-world.”
“Ah, I see. Are you still planing on terrising his lass this year? Becuase you know that I’ll help you…” Melissa replied.
“Yes.”
“Hey there is Miss. Look-at Me-LOK-at-me. God why couldn’t she through herself up to death over the summer?” Melissa said sarcastically.
Sarah walked into the office whom was then followed by Melissa. “Melissa Jones” Sarah told the receptionist. Sarah always did this for Melissa, and no one ever conplained becuase it’ not like the togirls were ever going to do anything bad to the other. As the receptionist printed off the class schedual Melissa noticed the only thing that she liked about her schoo lother than Sarah, and that was Kyle Haert. Melissa had tried to turn around before Sarah took notice. But it was too late.
“Oh god, please tell me that you aren’t STILL hung up about the It out there? Are you? Come on you know that he’s not worth it.” Sarah commented.
“Hell no.” She lied, and Sarah knew her too well to believe hat.
“You know that you are too good for that peice of shit. Especally after what he did to you. Now come on, lets go.” Sarah said to her. As she grabbed the paper from the receptionist.
Yes Melissa remembered, how could she forget? He was the first to catch her eye and the first to break her heart. She had liked him so much, and everyone knew. She had thought that he liked her, well at least alittle. And she was so happy when she found out that he had asked her out. They had only went out for a week before he brokeup with her, he said that he never even liked her and that one of his friends had dared hi mto go out with her. Even now three years later she was still debating on where he liked her or not and wether he still like her now. And she knew thatc she would never be able to fully recover from that. S he never get over him, and Sarah knew that just as Melissa did.
As the two girl walked back out into the hallway, once again a path cleared up. Melissa headed straight for Sarah’s and her’s secret spot. Theplace that they always went to. As they reached the spot, they pulled out their scheduals to compare. Not to suprized to find out that they had every class together, as it had been since they first met. They walked out into the hallway and to there classroom, taking the last row of the arrangments of desks. they waited for their “group” to show up, as the students filed into the classroom the two girls scoffed at nearly all of them, that is until after the bell rang and their friends walked in, tarty as usual…
