TOWNIES.yes,we all luv to hate them but if u think about it,we’re not as different as u think.i dont mean the way we think or look but what we do.slag each other off.goths(this is slagging myself off)sit, stand(whatever) and slag off townies thinking ‘how can they go around looking like that, they look so stupid,do they have no dignity.’ and other things such as the music townies listen to or the things theyre interested in.
i suspect they do the same to goths, although theyre not so discreet about it,they stand there, not thinking about the consequences of how it affects the person they are lowering the dignity of and take the piss.for example,’that person if such a freak, why cant she just be normal like everyone else.’ that leaves the question, what is normal? anyway, the fact is,we all do it but it seems pointless to me when everyones different.ok,so they might be classed as the same thing (goth, grunger, punk, townie,so on…) but theyre different on the inside.maybe the reason us goths arent so openminded about townies is because we think the only reason theyre townies is because theyre afraid to show their true colours.although i feel ashamed to say it,until a few months ago,i too was kind of one of them, the pop religion, the colourful people.then i woke up to the real world.it just feels like a release to be who i am now,i felt like i was lying to myself.maybe thats what is waiting to happen to the townies.
Most of them will never see the world the way you do. And I agree with you about everyone being in different classifications and no-one really being “normal” because there are just so many different types of people out there. “Goths” probably slag off the “townies” (this is an American term yes? What EXACTLY is a “townie”? They sound a bit like what we call “Mario’s”? The techno, addidas loving people?) because the “townies” do it to them. It’s a visious cycle. If everyone just let everyone else be themselves, without comment, then we wouldn’t feel the need to comment about them, we’d just accept that they’re all different.
Townies is a british thing too.
Once again, Audryn makes her bid for world peace. It’ll never happen, but it’s good that you see how it could.
I guess … maybe townies aren’t waiting for enlightenment or whatever shit it is you think they need. Maybe they’re happy listening to the music they listen to, and being who they are.
I’m just gonna live and let live, coz otherwise I won’t have time to do anything else.
I KINDA SEE WHAT YOUR SAYIN. I DONT LIKE TO THINK TOO HARD ABOUT WHATS NORMAL CUZ THERES NO ANSWER. TRULY THERES NO STANDARD OR AT LEAST THERE SHOULDNT BE. ( MAINSTREAM AND SUCH) WHATS SOCIETY ALSO? TRULY SUCH ?’S ARE MIND BOGGLING. LOL THATS A FUNNY WORD. BOGGLING. LOL. NEWAYZ PEACE
Goths seem to be very…open about what they are. Townies, Preppies, Neo-Hypies….they all say ‘oh were not that. Were normal.’ Yet goths seem to recognize there is no ‘normal.’ It is a style, a way of expression and life choice.
Gothic is not just a fad or black clothes. Its an expression. All these people say ‘Oh, I just like the clothes, the music, the lifestyle, and the people, but I’m not a townie/preppie/neo/bud.’ Well actually you are, just acjknolwedge it and move on.
Word
most of the people i know are happy to be labelled, as long as that label isn’t used in a degrading way. I mean, with ‘goths’ turning the word townie into an insult, OF COURSE they’re gonna deny it. They just wanna be themselves, not a demeaning label, and surely that’s a situation you can empathize with.
While on the topic of labels, I really don’t care what people label me as. They can call me goth, freak, fag, and I’ll just go along with it. I just say “sure” and move on becuase I don’t care what they think. It’s not about them anyway.
I have to say, my favorite gay insult up here is “fairy”. I love when people call me that. I’m six foot four, I fight, I play hockey and (american)football and I’m built like a train.
People are very content to call me a fairy until I go stand a little bit closer. Then they tend to shut up. Weird that, huh?
I agree, i think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but that opinion can go too far especially when people use “goth” as an insult, when it really isnt insulting at all. I don’t bother “slagging off townies” coz i know it’s pointless, everyone is labelled but no one can seem to help that. So what if they listen to different music? It’s no reason for them to have a go at gothics becuase they look a little different. I basically think it’s pointless and immature that people judge people by the way they dress and act, and even the music they listen to.
I agree with you PsycoChamber, goth isn’t an insult, but it’s used as one, just as calling someone gay is used as an insult; there is nothing wrong with being gay.
Not that it bothers me or anything.
Not that it bothers me or anything.
I love it when people call me names and when they be mean and crap like that. I have tendencies to love “negative” things…dun know why…
not only because it’s amusing when they call me names. i just like the attention, and i like talking to them, and i love it when they have the nerve to talk to me in the first place, especially when they call me “avril lavigne” in front of their friends and then walk around the group of preps in front of me just so 1) i dun see them and 2) to not face me. love it. just loving it. i do agree with the post though. i’ve been thinking about that a lot lately too, ever since i read it. and i agree with FearHate too. very good point. i’ll stop typing now and move on.
and ever since that whole “what is goth” argument i take it as an offense when people call me “goth” cuz now that i know what it means i hate people who dont and abuse the word. call me hypocritical. i dun care.
I got to admit it’s funny when people scream “You’re GAY!”
And you’re like …. “Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. I hadn’t noticed, with my boyfriends tongue down my throat and all.” 🙂
What? They think it’s insulting? If it’s not an insult, don’t try and make it one. You may as well say “You’re a youngish man with dark hair, dark eyes, a quite nice house and a propensity for laughter. Ha! Take that!”
It’s stoopid.
Ha yeah it is funny when you put it that way. I only get mad when people call me gay because it’s like they can’t think of a better insult than that, and I want to say something like “Oh wow what an insult” but I just get too angry and can’t think of anything.
