Slam. Dunk.
This film is perfect. Even the parts that have been labelled “sloppy” by the Normie critics are a part of the movie’s overall charm. It’s big, it’s loud, it’s frenetic, and most of all it’s fun. Unabashedly, enthusiastically fun. And funny. My sides ached from laughing. That’s not to say the movie doesn’t possess any gravitas. It certainly does. But there’s an ideal balance between the funny parts and the times when things get really dark. My hat is off to director Andy Serkis, who is still relatively new to the whole directing thing, for delivering a movie that is just as good as the original and even improves on some of the things the Normies complained about the first time around, like giving more development to the supporting cast.
The action is also anchored by some really quality acting from all involved, especially Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson. And Naomie Harris’s Shriek is at times heartbreaking. (You just know asshats like Scorcese hate it when you see A-level acting in a movie that the snooty little snootsters maintain isn’t “cinema”.)
We had to wait over a year for this one. It was well worth the wait.
