Never Catholic

My father used to preach
Unto his children he always spoke
of faith, condolences, & sin
Although our father was not a religious man

I’m sure all of us knew each commandment
by heart when we were at least nine
And the idea of pennance was not new
For we had broken and recieved
God’s rules of Justice
Like Hell was a threat to non believers
a raised fist was enough for me
Heaven was the day turned eighteen
But I was never Catholic
