No Point In Living

There is no point in living. If you just asked “why”, I should ask you “WHY NOT ?” Is there any point in living ? If you found any, tell me about it ! Let us analyze the life of a person and see the meaning of her life…if there is any. Also, let us see if uniqueness exists. Let us see if we are special.

We will make this person male. We will give this person the name of “Edward”. Edward has just been born in a small town in the east of the U.S. His family is not very rich, but not very poor either. This is the beginning of this person’s life. His childhood is of extremely little importance, as is also his entire life. He has a childhood just like other children. It is in no way unique and special. It is just another childhood. Then, he becomes an adolescent. Hormones flow to his head and change his judgement. This is the stage of his life where he changes the most. He falls in love with somebody, and does most of the things other teenagers do. His adolescence is in no way unique and special. He starts taking drugs. He has sex. He does a lot of things, be he is not the first to do any of them. HE IS IN NO WAY UNIQUE AND SPECIAL. Then, he matures. He starts to become more “serious” if we can say so, and regrets some of the things he did in his earlier life. He goes to college. There, he falls in love again (for the sixth time), this time with another student. The relationship lasts for a long time, and he actually marries this girl. Nothing is unique and special. Edward becomes a succesful lawyer. He has a child. Then, he has another. The first was a female person. The second was also female. The years quickly pass. Edward is now pretty aged. He retires. The years pass again. Now, Edward is on his death bed, and he is searching for a meaning to his life… But he understands that he was not unique. That he was just another male person that was born in a small town in the east of the U.S, that he went through childhood and adolescence like everybody else, that he went to college and became a lawyer, that he got married and had two children and that he is now dying. And what meaning did his life had ? After all, that’s what we originally intended to find out. Well, let us analyze his life again, as briefly as possible. I think we could say this : 1. he is born; 2. he has children; 3. he dies. These are the “main stages” of his life. Which of these stages is the one he lived for ? Which of these stages did he live to go through ? The beginning of one’s life is birth. You cannot say he lived to be born. Stage 1 is out of the question, then. Of course, he lives to die. But we already know that, don’t we ? We are asking another question here : why did he live ? WHY ? All things come to an end, but we are not interested in the end or the beginning. We are interested in the rest. In the middle. What did he ACHIEVE in life ? If Stage 1 and Stage 3 are out, we are left with Stage 3. He lived, he made children, he died. He lived to make children. Reproduction is the meaning of life. You leave to “distribute your seeds”. You leave to have followers. You followers will also have children, which will have children, which will have children. That is the point of LIFE !

Most people should stop thinking humans are the center of the universe. We are not. We revolve around the Sun, not him around US ! Think universally for a moment. This universe was not made for us. It is simply a MISTAKE that we exist. It is a gigantic MISTAKE. We were not meant to live. We were not. Knowing this, there can be no destiny or life after death. The concept of destiny is that we were meant to do something, and we have no control whatsoever on what we do. But how could we be meant to do something IF WE WEREN”T MEANT TO EXIST ? Life after death is also a very old concept, but it is pretty stupid if you ask me. The belief that there is life after death is the belief that humans have any importance in the universe. The belief that humans have any importance in universe is close to the belief that the Sun revolves around us. THE BELIEF THAT THERE IS LIFE AFTER DEATH IS ABSURD ! I don’t belive in God. Why ? Because today’s science makes God obsolete, if I can put it that way.

I am sometimes annoyed by these terms that humans use. There is no such thing as perfection or uniqueness ! How do you define perfection ? Is perfection something with no flaw ? If so, how do you define flaw ? Is a flaw something that the human mind considers wrong ?

“We separate things according to gender, designating the tree as masculine and the plant as feminine. What arbitrary assignments! How far this oversteps the canons of certainty! We speak of a “snake”: this designation touches only upon its ability to twist itself and could therefore also fit a worm. What arbitrary differentiations! What one-sided preferences, first for this, then for that property of a thing! The various languages placed side by side show that with words it is never a question of truth, never a question of adequate expression; otherwise, there would not be so many languages.” {On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense (1873) by Friedrich Nietzsche}

And maybe things are unique. Things such as humans. You don’t live in the same places, right ? That makes you unique, right ? Everyone is unique because chances are small that somebody dresses like you, looks like you, thinks like you, lives where you live, etc. Yes, you are unique. Hardly. But are we talking about this kind of “finger tip” uniqueness ? Not really. You are unique in your own way. But here we are actually talking about uniqueness of the mind. You are not alone in your thoughts and you can be sure about that.

“Or “vice versa”, friend, if you are a Satanist; ’tis a matter of words — words — words. You may write “x” for “y” in your equations, so long as you consistently write “y” for “x”. They remain unchanged — and unsolved. Is not all our “knowledge” an example of this fallacy of writing one unknown for another, and then crowing like Peter’s cock?”
(The Soldier and the Hunchback)

“Mind and consciousness are thus merely electrochemical events in the brain and spirit is a word without objective content. The causes of some events are likely to remain obscure perhaps indefinitely, but there is an underlying faith that sufficient material cause must exist for any event. All human acts can be categorized as serving some biological need or as expressions of previously applied conditioning or merely as malfunction. The goal of materialist who eschews suicide is the pursuit of personal satisfaction including altruistic satisfactions if desired.”

“It is an unfortunate fact that every man who seeks to disseminate knowledge must contend not only against ignorance itself, but against false instruction as well. No sooner do we deem ourselves free from a particularly gross superstition, than we are confronted by some enemy to learning who would set aside all the intellectual progress of years, and plunge us back into the darkness of mediaeval disbelief.” (Letter to The Providence Evening News by H.P. Lovecraft)
