Question How does one know what they write is meaning ful.

I have been writing since I can remember. Poetry or short stories , I am not sure what mine should be classified as. One thing has struck a chord with me though, my writing mean nothing to me, I don’t understand them yet everyone around me sees somthing in them.

My writing obvisouly reflect some part of me, I am just not sure what. Another thing that bothers me is why I write. I literally can write 24/7. I have phrases and words rambling inside my mind at all times. I feel as if I was given a useless gift. I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some sort of light upon this .

My life is shadowed with a seclusion of no emtions and even less of heart. The blackness that is growing within me does not quiet growing. My senses are all dead eaten by time. The phrase "dead within" fits be like a leather coat.

  1. I suspect your writings are what’s left floating around in your conscious mind when polite society drains you of the acceptable words and phrases. The everday ones that get over-used and abused. The thoughts that are left, that’s what we write down because there’s no other way to express them.
    Or maybe that’s just me.

  2. There is something within that just flows, flows like a river and wishes to pronounce itself in words. Most would think of words as dead things once they have been written on the page or texted out. . . . yet they can be very much living entities. Once upon a time words had magical power, things long forgotten about them, lost in time.

One they become living entities, they can have lives of their own, drawing in what happens within daily life and mix it up to create something else. It is a tapping into this flow, once you find it goes on its own. It creates symbolism and makes the images that others can see in thier own way, with their own minds eye.

It is a gift not many have, nor realise they have until the secret of those words are discovered. Think of it: comedian Robin Williams can capture a thought, an idea of the moment and run with it, let it flow and make it funny all quite on automatic… That is the talent, to be able to lead one thing to another to connect to make an image, a story or a funny scene or see the scheme of things in their vast entireity…

  3. Robin Williams is supposed to be funny? Someone should have clued me in on that.

  4. I was just using him as an example of someone who could capture a thought and run with it, be able to let there mind go and have everything flow in. Maybe I should have said “story telling” ability…? Maybe….

  5. i don’t write from experience and i don’t always write what’s in me. but there is always something small in my work that connects me with it. a word. a phrase. a name or a place. even an common ordinary object.

maybe you are looking too big. maybe there is something very small in your works that connects you to them. maybe even unconsciously.
