By this point, I’m going to assume everybody in the free world has seen AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, but if by some miracle or improbability you have not, you should stop reading at this point. I don’t plan to go into any great detail where the plot is concerned–I will say that anyone who has read the comics should have known going in that Thanos was going to win round one–and that the movie constitutes ONLY round one–and that the solution to the Infinity Gauntlet problem was presented in the movie, if the audience members were astute enough to catch it–but still. No, what I really want to talk about is Thanos’ minions: Proxima Midnight, Cull Obsidian, the Ebony Maw (the scariest by far in my opinion), and Corvus Glaive. Those characters were the stuff of nightmares, and I suspect they elicited just such a reactive phenomenon in many a young moviegoer.
The four characters, collectively named “The Black Order,” first appeared only recently, in comics created by writer Jonathan Hickman and artists Jerome Opena and Jim Cheung during their work on the various AVENGERS comics. Oh, and Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight are married. As they are referred to in the movie as “children of Thanos,” if the reference is NOT simply metaphorical, then that would make them not just freaky scary, but incestuous, too!
