The dawn of the vampire.

The beautiful glittering gold ball hit at the last second, and the band started to play. From the flat screened tv, you could almost see every bulb. She turned the tv off, and it was suddenly very dark. “Happy New Year baby.” She said, with almost a tinge of melancholy in her voice. I smiled, wondering what she had planned.

I lay back on the satin pillow. Then I felt sharp pain in my neck.. her bite. And the life drained from my stunned body slowly. But that was a very long time ago. Lets not dwell on the distant past. Today was new years eve, actually. But it is no longer such a big deal. Vampires had seen to that. What was one more year in a world of chaos? Now anarchy ruled. It was hard to find humans these days. They are almost extinct now. To find one was a rare treat. But you cant keep it to yourself. Oh no. You would recieve a pretty good bounty for one these days.

Here’s the process. The are brought to a secret place. Then they are tagged, and put in a kind of human zoo. They would be made to mate with every other human of the opposite sex… and about 9 months later.. well.. you should know.

Then these pure bred humans would be raised by the vampire ‘keepers’, and given drugs to sedate them and keep their blood from clotting. Then they would hook them up to a machine to suck small amounts of blood from them. The blood is processed (not sure how) into a mixture with synthetic blood. This mixture would then be ‘spiked’ with a drug. The only drug known that seriously f***s up vampires. It causes the normal side effects.. like hallucinations, and makes the vampires into easily controlled zombies.

The final product reaches vampire supply stations in every town. They are rationed out, and are the only legal source of human blood. Oh, and I forgot to mention- the penalty for being in possession of an untagged human.. is a nice vacation to the beach. Sans 1000 spf suntan lotion and drinks. Not very pretty. And scary enough to keep selfish and kamikaze vampires in compliance.

So thats where we are in this dawn of the new year. Time to break out the blood-spiked champagne.. And reminisce about the old days. And if that special someone is within reach.. give em a little bite. Just for me. Happy New Year baby.
