Talk about a lurid headline. “Nuns Raped Girls With Crucifixes as Female Pedophilia Was Covered Up by the Church”. Ugh.
Let me state this as clearly and succinctly as possible. Sexual abuse of children is horrific, and it’s even worse when it’s committed by someone who is supposed to be in a position to protect those children. It’s sickening. And when the ones committing the abuse are also hypocrites, claiming to be representing God? There’s the Devil, right there, friends. He exists. And he sometimes wears a priest’s collar or a nun’s habit. Disgusting.
We don’t want anyone to misunderstand. We would never make light of such a serious topic.
But we gotta be honest. You all be honest, too. As Horror marks, how many of you thought immediately of that scene in THE EXORCIST when then demon uses the crucifix to, uh, do nasty things to little Regan? I sure did. And that demon voice, repeating “Let Jesus…!” Well, you know the scene I’m talking about. It’s kinda hard to forget.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Devil was always as easy to recognize as he was in that movie? You wouldn’t expect the Father Merrin showing up at your door to be the one there to do you harm, but that’s sometimes a sad reality of the world we live in. (We don’t mean to suggest that *all* priests or nuns are sexual deviants. But far too many of them are.)
