Darkness. And then, far away, light. Light that rapidly grew larger and larger. When the light became almost too unbearable to stand, time seemed to slow. With a loud, snapping sound, thousands of images and thoughts as well as events from the past, present, and perhaps the future, came bolting forth. Lydia’s mind became a whirl of all these things, all flashing before her minds eye with warp speed. And pain.
Such pain she felt. Like tiny pins sticking from every inch of her body. She moaned, willing her eyes to open. For a moment she did, her pupils contracting to allow the extra light. She tried to focus on the hazy figure before her but got no where. After a few moments they rolled back in to her head and she was still once more, lost in the dark recesses of her mind.
Staring at her from across the room in which she lay, a man or at least what appeared to be a man smiled down at her, he’s obsidian eyes sparkling at her lifeless form. Standing up in one swift movement, he walked to where she lay and kneeled before her. Taking a clothe from his back pocket he gently brushed away the beads of sweat that had appeared on her brow, as well as replacing the stray black curls back behind her ear. “Soon my, darling. Soon you will be mine. Forever.”
Picking her up carefully in his arms, he wrapped her pale arms about his neck and headed towards the door.
Screaming, Lydia bolted into a sitting position. Gasping for air, she looked around, her gasps choking in to cries. Putting a hand to her mouth, she willed herself to calm down.
“Its ok Lydia, just relax. Think straight.”
After several moments she managed to calm herself enough to slow her racing heart and stop her ragged cries.
“Think.”
She closed her eyes, watching as the horror unfolded once more before her. It had been him. He’d come for her that night. Who he was, she didn’t know; just a man. Or at least, she had thought he was a man. That was until he had attacked her, ripping at her clothes and clawing at her arms and neck. Remembering it, she put a hand to where the deep gashes had been. Nothing. She felt herself over, looking down at herself but finding nothing. But she’d felt them. She’d felt him ripping in to her, tearing at her flesh. She’d seen the blood pool around her and had seen his crimson face laugh down at her wildly. Leaning forward she retched on ground before her, gagging on the sour bile.
Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand she began to cry once more.
“Damnit, Lydia, stop! Your acting childish. Just stop. Your alive. Your fine. Be glad.”
Shakily, she tried to stand up, failing in the first time but succeeding in the second. Looking around, she realized she must have been in some kind of park. She was surprised to find that the night looked the same as it had before she’d been abducted.
“Could it be he did all that as fast as he did?”
She tried to remember how long she had been with him. It had seemed like ages. Then, like a block of ice, it hit her.
“Is it possible he had me for more then one night? How long have I been unconscious?”
As soon as she thought it she stopped herself, dismissing the thought. That was the last thing she needed to think about.
Coming to a park bench, she sat down, feeling exhausted and confused.
“I don’t understand. I know it happened. I couldn’t have made it up. No. Am I going crazy? What the hells happening?”
For what seemed like hours, (in reality, only a few minutes), she thought of every possible explanation for what had happened to her. None seemed to fit. Except for one. Could she have encountered a vampire? No. Didn’t vampires kill you? If so, then why wasn’t she dead? And why was she completely unharmed as she was? None of it made sense.
From the darkest shadows, he watched, watched as his precious child walked about in her confusion.
“Soon my darling. All shall be answered, and you shall become mine. Mine for all eternity.”
Lydia looked up as a deep feral laugh echoed through the night.
