Amid the shadows and saddened hearts of grace,
One lonesome soldier lies and waits.
For dawn will rise upon the dead
And put their sorrow-laden minds to bed.
Long forgotten,
Those wounded few.
And left to die;
Oh, no one knew
That Glory would never lay
Her golden hand upon their breasts.
And their eyes will never see
Her sweet and golden smile.
Their wan pallid souls dance in the humid breeze.
And their loved ones, they never again will see.
Now this soldier lies alone.
All comrades gone, their souls have flown.
In the trenches
Lie and wait.
Keep your life
For one more day.
So far, so far.
Must go on.
Look at the faces.
Memories live on.
Inside his mind
He will always see.
His fallen comrades,
Lying silently.
Not all the names can be mounted
And so all the dead cannot be counted.
Oh those many who gave their lives,
And left their women home to cry.
Numerous wars have come and gone.
This passage of time goes forever on.
But the young, they do not listen.
And dream those dreams of Glory’s reign.
They see no hatred, see no fear.
They don’t see the living dead linger.
Surviving from day to day.
Shameful, not proud of Glory’s rain.
