Whispers In The Dark: November 11, 2000

Various bits and bobs.

My comments first, because I’m the Mistress, that’s why. *crack!*

First of all: SUBMIT! Once again Darksites is running low on articles. We could especially use some horror and fetish submissions, although the old standbys of gothicism, death, vampirism, and magic are always appreciated.

Secondly, go to Catty Goths. It’s one of the funniest sites I have ever seen. Heinlein once pointed out, in A Stranger In A Strange Land, that all humour is inherently cruel. Nowhere is that truism better illustrated than here. It hurts to laugh, especially when your own site comes under attack. Want to see the review of my own website? Check out their review of The Vampire/Donor Alliance. Ouch! It’s scathing! And often bitingly accurate, especially the bit about my Beverly Hillbillies teeth.

And while I’m still holding the conch of authority, I ask, does anybody have any questions that they’d like to ask Poppy Z. Brite? We’re going to interview her soon, and post the interview here. Let us know what you want answered.

Now, on to reader comments:

Eli Dragonmoon writes a short prose poem:

If I died, I would miss you. If I died, I know you would miss me, too. But I don’t care anymore, I just don’t care. I’m going to commit suicide, And be happy when I died. I’m gonna kill myself, And you can put my ashes on a shelf. I could swallow some pills, Eat something that kills, I could slit my wrists, And fade into the Mists, I could inhale some water, Eat some poisonous rat fodder, Or I can pull the trigger, That’ll be a whole lot quicker, Or jump in front of a bus, And avoid all the fuss, Or simply cut my throat, And be found in a bloody moat. I’d be happy when I died, Even though you all would’ve cried. But as I watch you sleeping, I realize my memory you’ll be keeping. I found out I have something, To keep me from meeting my Great Horned King….. I have you to live for, Now I ask for nothing more. I love you, I care, I really do care.

Vampiress chantelle writes:

Fear is whatever you think it is, if you fear one thing over another then you have fear…….Fear comes in many shapes and sizes and should be handled with care for each individual……Life IS MORE than fear…………….

The only thing to fear is fear itself – to quote Franklin Delano Roosevelt, because that takes up much less space than quoting the Bene Gesserit mantra against fear…Mistress

Deman Vampire writes:

Why is it that every mortal has to sterotype us? We are thought of as only freaks, or satanists, or other crap like that? Why can’t they simply accept what they don’t understand….When this world will ever be comprehend what they can not understand I will never know, but when it does, maybe then we can finally be seen for what kind of a person we are, and not what we are sterotyped as…..

Maybe when you stop calling people who are every bit as human and ordinary as you are “mortals?” Try it sometime. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results. – Mistress

That’s all for tonight. Send in those articles!

  1. Ahhhhhhh,
    “Fear is the mind killer…”
“….a HUMAN can withstand any pain…our test is crisis…..”
I, like M’uad D’ib, see the truth of it. Why is this film so often ignored? The parable, angst, and finalization are all so GAWTH…
    Really!

  2. Fear is the mind killer, it is the little death that brings obliteration, i will permit it to pass over me and through me, then, i will turn to see fears path, and only i will remain.
