Words of Wisdon from the Freakshow

It’s kinda’ funny, because when I talk to some of my friends, they tell me that when people first introduced us to one another, that they referred to me as “that one Black punk chick”, but I never really saw myself as being “punk”.

It’s kinda’ funny, because when I talk to some of my friends, they tell me that when people first introduced us to one another, that they referred to me as “that one Black punk chick”, but I never really saw myself as being “punk”. I mean, I’ve always had a thing for what some people call “strange colour combinations”, and since I started high school, I’ve aquired a new found love for punk and industrial music…but I just thought that I was being myself. But what’s even more humourous is that people not only label me as being “punk” (no offense to the other punkers out there – I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing – if I did, I would be a hypocrite) but they also accuse me of acting “white”. Well excuse me for not grabbing my crotch, shouting obscenities and saying “yo, yo, yo” after every other sentence. I’m not bilingual – I speak English, not Ebonics, dearie. I’ve also stopped wearing some of the clothes that I used to wear, because so many people started wearing the same apparel that I was wearing – but I suppose that’s what I get for buying the majority of my pants and hoodies from Hot Topic and Zzzing/State of Mind. Anywho, I think that the people that I used to hang out with look at me as being a poseur because I don’t dress like them anymore. (Like I really care what they think, anyways). I’m just saying that I find it extremely amusing. So, in long, what I’m saying is that the best thing to do is be yourself, because everyone’s a freak in someone’s eyes. 😉

  1. Ha ha! I love this. You are very good with your words. I especially like the “yo, yo, yo” part. Very, very nice. Write more! *Smiles*

  2. I really agree and I understand completely. I’m a black chica too and, yeah, I like rock music…and other genres as well. I get called “wannabe white girl” because I choose to actually talk like my mother raised me respectfully and I dun come straight outta the ghetto. It sucks ass and it pisses me off because its so IGNORANT!!! Why must I be “bouji” or “fraud” becasue I don’t act like a heathen and run around cussing people out unnecesssarily? This world is one Sick, Sad, cess pool of stupidity and blissful Ignorance….*sigh* But, back to the actual reason behind this, You’re so right and i’m excited to see what you come up with next!! post soon!! ;p

  3. I liked this post, it was funny. And the whole wearing shit from commercial “rocker” stores is exactly why my shirt reads “FUCK HOT TOPIC”. People are like a combination of apes, mules, and pigs/bovine/sheep (one of those herding animals…or some hideous hybrid of all three!). Smart-asses, stubborn and born to follow. And the fact that people bitch at you just because you don’t conform to the “yo, yo, yo waddup ma nigga” stereotype just blows. Still, it’s all good that you can take it in stride and with humor.

  4. That was a pretty refreshingly different post, and good on you, as long as you never speak the word wigga (white niger), as long as you never critisize white boys who think they are tupac, snoopdog whatthefuckever. I accidently find myself cursing niggers all the time, but by niggers I mean gangster ghetto dwellers regardless of race and nationality, but where I am guilty is seperating white niggers occaisionly and calling them a wigga instead of a plain old nigger. I’m glad I read this post because it opens a new level of acceptance in my head. Thankyou, but dare not act sanctimonious in my presence or watch out 🙂
